‎Labor Demands Immediate Reform Of Oil, Gas Sector

The Nigerian Labor Congress (NLC) has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to commence immediate reform of the nation's oil and gas sec‎tor with the immediate passage of the Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB)
 
Factional president of the labor union‎, Comrade Joe Ajaero said that the unending and seemingly impossible fuel and power shortages should be of immediate concern to the administration.

Factional president of the labor union‎, Comrade Joe Ajaero said that the unending and seemingly impossible fuel and power shortages should be of immediate concern to the administration.
 
In a statement sent to Shipping Position Daily, the union stressed that ‎"the sudden emergence of long queues at filling stations in major cities as a result of insufficient supply of petroleum products across the country is deeply worrisome"
 
"This worry is further compounded with the recent release of the audit report into the account of NNPC which just revealed a tip of the iceberg of the deep-rooted mismanagement, maladministration, wastages and corruption in the Petroleum Industry"
 
The NLC regretted that since year 2000, successive governments have failed to pass the Bill into law.
 
The NLC said that the new Government will achieve epochal feat by commencing the reform of the oil and gas sector with the immediate passage of the PIB.
 
"To demonstrate the lack of political will of successive governments, the Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB) which is expected to bring into the sector the much anticipated reforms that will make the oil industry yield the maximum returns to the country, investors and other diverse investments in the oil and gas sector is yet to be passed since year 2000"
 
"This should be followed by concrete framework for the establishment of more refineries and the rehabilitation of existing local refineries" the statement reads.
