Lagos House Of Assembly seeks enhanced security operations in coastal communities

The Lagos State House of Assembly has  called for joint security operations in coastal communities to forestall incessant kidnapping by criminals using the waterways.
The lawmakers made the call while reacting to a motion moved by Mr Segun Olulade under matter of urgent public importance, on the two kidnap incidents in his constituency.
They also called on the state police command to upgrade police posts in the coastal areas and create a police command in Epe.
The lawmakers charged the Ministry of Education to ensure the enforcement of the resolution of the House in fencing primary and secondary schools in the state.
They also called on the state government to, as a matter of urgency, begin the implementation of the neighbourhood watch agency law to strengthen security in the coastal communities.
Olulade had informed his colleagues about two abduction incidents that occurred within one week in his constituency at Epe 1.
He told them of the kidnap of the principal, four students and house master of the Lagos State Igbonla Model College, Igbonla, Epe.
The lawmaker also told them of the kidnap of a 70-year-old retired banker and three of his staff at Molajoye also in Epe.
“We are endangered in Epe. The state security trust fund law should be looked into to strengthen and provide security on the waterways through the provision of gunboats and marine police station.
“We appeal for the establishment of a full-fledged police station in Ketu and Ejirin as there is only one police station in the 68 communities making up this constituency,’’ he said.
Olulade commended the Deputy Governor, Dr Idiat Adebule, and the State Commissioner of Police for prompt response immediately they were informed about the school incident.
Mr Jude Idimogu, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party in the House, said that payment of ransom to kidnappers should be stopped as it encouraged them in their criminal activities.
Idimogu also called for the empowerment of members of the Neighbourhood Watch.
