The Lagos State Government with combined efforts of personnel of the Nigeria Army and Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) have been able to restore sanity on the Apapa Oshodi expressway, stretching as far as the Coconut bus stop.

In the last three days, Shipping Position Daily has monitored the traffic situation along the ever-busy and congested road even as petroleum tankers have been ordered to queue on the service lane, while containers and other general cargo trucks are advised to maintain a straight queue on the left part of the road inwards Tin Can Island port.

Investigations further revealed that the approach to Tin Can Island Port still remains a no go area largely because of the poor state of the road.

Apart from the army personnel, our correspondent also sighted officials of the Lagos State Taskforce Monitoring and Enforcement team on patrol in conjunction with other officials from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA).

However port users, petroleum marketers and commuters expressed satisfaction with the present state of the Apapa Oshodi expressway.

Speaking with our correspondent yesterday, a safety officer with Sahara Energy (names withheld) said that there has been sanity since the beginning of the week, even as he added that efforts to restore sanity to the road were made possible by tank farm owners, the Lagos State Government and the FRSC.

He said there have been constant meetings between the three groups on how to decongest the road, noting that the consultation by parties made it possible for the free flowing traffic now being experienced.

According to him, lifting of products from depots within the stretch is handled with ease, adding that there has been a massive reduction on the level of human and mechanical noise.

He lauded efforts put in place by the Lagos State Governor; Mr. Akinwummi Ambode , even as he appealed to the Nigerian Army not to withdraw their men and also ensure that the tempo is sustained.

Further observations also revealed that driving against traffic by commuter buses on the expressway has finally seized due to the presence of military operatives posted their

A member of Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN); Mr. Babatunde Rotimi said that what is presently obtainable require commonsense.
Rotimi appealed to the authorities to do same to the Wharf Ijora axis, saying that there are still traffic challenges on the Apapa port link roads.
