Lagos State Public Works Corporation (LSPWC) has said that it would commence repair works on the bad portions of Apapa/Oshodi Expressway in April.
LSPWC Special Adviser/Chief Executive Officer, Mr Ayotunde Sodeinde, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos that already, the corporation had started extensive repairs works on Lagos-Badagry Expressway.
“We have started repairing over 10 bad spots on the Lagos-Badagry Expressway to reduce gridlock and hardship being faced by people plying the road.
“However, the present administration will commence the rehabilitation of Berliet axis of Apapa-Oshodi Expressway in April.
“Gov. Ambode’s administration is an all-inclusive government that wants all bad roads in the state to be fixed irrespective of its owner – federal, state or local.
“Hence, the urgent directive by the governor that the corporation should commence an extensive repair of Berliet axis of Apapa Oshodi Expressway, which has been in a terrible state for a long time,’’ he said.
The special adviser assured residents of Lagos that the corporation would continue road maintenance even with the approaching rainy season.
Sodeinde explained that materials more friendly with water such as paving stones and enforced concrete cement would be used on the roads.
A NAN correspondent, who took a trip on the highway on Saturday, observed gullies at Berliet, Beach Land, Coconut, Ilasa and Tin Can Bus Stop.
NAN reports that huge refuse dumped on the median of the highway had blocked the drainage creating no outlet for water to flow.
In another development, Gov. Akinwunmi Ambode has donated four new staff buses and a mini office with rest-rooms for the road maintenance gangs of LSPWC.
The Head of Service of the Lagos State Civil Service, Mrs Olabowale Ademola, made this known at the official inauguration of the items at the corporation’s office complex, Ojodu, Lagos on Saturday.
Ademola, who represented the governor, said the four new staff buses and a mini-office were for the road maintenance gangs working day and night on Lagos roads.
Ambode said that the government was pleased with the effort of the staff and urged the workers to reciprocate the gesture by re-dedicating themselves to their duties.
The governor said the state government was committed to the welfare of its staff and has restructured public service to have a new face lift in the state.
