LAUGH THE STRESS OFF: YES, TRY IT, IT DOES WORK!

This piece considers what Nigerians; especially those who live in major cities go through. Issues like bad roads, coupled with high vehicular traffic, leading to excruciating long hours on the roads. Going to and coming back from work or embarking on visits have become harrowing.  For those who live in Lagos suburbs and even the metropolis, the effect is: stress, stress and more stress! You are looking for drugs to arrest stress because you probably do not know that laughter is one of the best remedies for a stressful life.
Humour is infectious. The sound of roaring laughter is far more contagious than any cough, sniffle, or sneeze. When laughter is shared, it binds people together and increases happiness and intimacy. In addition to the domino effect of joy and amusement, laughter also triggers healthy physical changes in the body. Humour and laughter strengthen your immune system, boost your energy, diminish pain, and protect you from the damaging effects of stress. Best of all, this priceless medicine is fun, free, and easy to use.

When it comes to relieving stress, more giggles and guffaws are just what the doctor ordered. Here’s why.

Short-term benefits
A good laugh has great short-term effects. When you start to laugh, it doesn’t just lighten your load mentally, it actually induces physical changes in your body.

A good dose of laughter can:

• Stimulate your organs. Laughter enhances your intake of oxygen-rich air, stimulates your heart, lungs and muscles, and increases the endorphins that are released by your brain.

• Activate and relieve your stress response. A rollicking laugh fires up and then cools down your stress response and increases your heart rate and blood pressure. The result is a  good and relaxed feeling.

• Soothe tension and stomach aches. Laughter can also ease digestion and stimulate circulation, which helps reduce some of the physical symptoms of stress.

Long-term effects
Laughter isn’t just a quick pick-me-up, though. It’s also good for you over the long haul. Laughter may:

• Improve your immune system. Negative thoughts manifest into chemical reactions that can impact your body by bringing more stress into your system and decreasing your immunity. In contrast, positive thoughts actually release neuropeptides that help fight stress and potentially more-serious illnesses.

• Relieve pain. Laughter may ease pain by causing the body to produce its own natural painkillers.

• Increase personal satisfaction. Laughter can also make difficult situations a little bit easier.

How Does Laughter Relieve Stress?
Physical Stress

Laughter stimulates blood circulation and eases digestive processes, according to the Mayo Clinic (see Resources below). Better circulation relieves physical distress, thus easing the related physical stress. It is also thought that laughter produces natural painkillers in the body, which helps to ease pain and further reduce physical stress. It is also known that negative thoughts have a negative impact on the body and can create chemical reactions leading to adverse conditions, such as high blood pressure. Laughing causes quite the opposite to happen. Laughing causes positive thoughts to abound which in turn produce neuropeptides, which fight stress in the body.

Mental Stress
When one laughs about a particular incident, one just feels better because it puts the issue in a different light and shows other areas of the problem. People who laugh regularly and have a healthy sense of humor do not take themselves or their life situations too seriously and this eases mental stress. Finding something humorous in any situation makes the problem more bearable and relieves some of the stress associated with the unresolved challenge. Laughter causes one to breathe in more oxygen, which in turn makes the body function better leading to stress relief.

Put Laughter to Use
As soon as you find yourself laughing regularly, you notice changes to your body. The body becomes less tense. The face becomes less tight. You take in breath and heave it out in a laughing fit. For a moment, your mind is devoid of thought–good or bad. This is how laughter works to relieve stress. It is highly recommended to make time to laugh every day.

KNOW YOUR BODY PARTS: The Liver The liver is a vital organ located in the right upper abdomen, playing a crucial role in metabolism, detoxification, and digestion. It’s the largest solid organ in the body and is responsible for filtering blood, maintaining blood sugar levels, regulating clotting, and synthesizing essential proteins. The liver also stores energy, removes toxins, and produces bile, which aids in digestion Liver functions: · Metabolism and Detoxification: The liver processes nutrients from the blood, breaks down and balances them, and creates essential substances for the body. It detoxifies harmful substances like drugs and alcohol, converting them into less toxic forms for excretion. The liver plays a role in the metabolism of proteins, carbohydrates, and fats. It stores glycogen (a form of glucose) and vitamins, releasing them when the body needs them. · Digestion: The liver produces bile, which is stored in the gallbladder and released into the small intestine to help digest fats. Bile also helps in the absorption of fat-soluble vitamins. · Blood Regulation: The liver regulates blood sugar levels by storing and releasing glucose. It synthesizes clotting factors, which are essential for blood clotting. It removes old red blood cells and processes bilirubin, a byproduct of red blood cell breakdown. · Other Functions: The liver plays a role in immunity, helping to fight off infections. It produces proteins that are involved in the immune response. The liver also stores iron and other essential minerals. Frequently Asked Questions About The Liver · What are the first signs of a bad liver? The initial signs of liver problems can be vague and subtle, often including fatigue, nausea, and loss of appetite. As the liver’s condition worsens, more specific symptoms may emerge, such as jaundice (yellowing of the skin and eyes), itchy skin, dark urine, and light-colored stools. Abdominal pain, especially in the upper right quadrant, can also indicate liver issues. · Where do you feel liver pain?
