MAN, Oron To Open 2 Training Centres For Mandatory Courses

Premier government- owned maritime training institution; the Maritime Academy of Nigeria (MAN) Oron in Akwa Ibom State is set to commence mandatory programmes in two key maritime states of the country.
The training centres will be located situated in Lagos with centre in Marina while the other centre is at Port Harcourt, the Rivers state capital.

Rector of the institution,  Mr .Joshua Okpo dropped the hint at the South – South International Magazine 7th Annual Lecture and Awardwhich  held last week end in Lagos, even as he affirmed that Lagos and Port Harcourt remain the hub of maritime activities in the country.
Okpo who bagged the maritime man of the year award at the event noted that the centres are geared toward providing maritime services to Nigerians.  
The rector added that the academy will soon acquire vessel to train its cadets adding that the ministry of transport is taking drastic action on vessel acquisition for the school.
"In our determination to service Nigerian better, two new study centres ,for basic mandatory courses have been opened in Lagos and Port Harcourt to bring our programmes closer to busy centres and very soon these centres will be opened.
"In Lagos it is located in outer Marina and very soon we will advertise the centre in Port Harcourt and we know that many Nigerians will benefit from it because Lagos and Port Harcourt are the hub of maritime business in the country, many Nigerians will avail themselves of this very useful opportunity, in a great stride toward upgrading and in consonance with clamours of Nigerians , the management also succeeded in bring the president of World Maritime University (WMU) Malmo Sweden to the academy and to Nigeria for the first time".
Okpo who presented a paper titled "Governance and Development :The Roles of the MDA'S and Training Institutions”, stressed that the academy has remained committed to rendering the highest standard of training possible to the present generation of Nigerians with plans in the pipeline to up the standards in the nearest future .
He also further disclosed that the academic board of the institution recently developed and introduced courses to be run by a newly established meteorology and marine research department of the school.
According to him, the academy has been transformed in the last 18 months in line with the management vision and with the federal government policies of developing maritime industry.
