Polaris Maritime Institute (a merchant navy academy) has announced that the school has entered a Memorandum of Understanding with eight shipping companies to enable its cadets get practical knowledge on boarding vessels.
Chief Executive Officer of the institute; Captain Banjo Daniel Akintunde in a statement that was made available in Lagos disclosed that the Iperu Remo (Ogun state)- based institute reached the agreement with the companies to grant cadets of the school practical experience on board their ships.

Chief Executive Officer of the institute; Captain Banjo Daniel Akintunde in a statement that was made available in Lagos disclosed that the Iperu Remo (Ogun state)- based institute reached the agreement with the companies to grant cadets of the school practical experience on board their ships.
The statement also revealed that the CEO of the maritime training institute made this known at the outing ceremony for graduating cadets recently in Ogun state.
The statement further quoted the chairman as saying that, ‘’our cadets that graduated in the month of June 2012 are currently on board various ships undergoing practical experience.’’
‘’More so, all the graduating and trainees that would graduate by December 2012 have been absorbed by various shipping companies to commerce practical work experience by 2nd January and 2nd February 2013, respectively’’.
‘We are glad to inform everyone present here that Polaris Maritime Institute Iperu has signed [MOU] Memorandum of Understanding with at least eight shipping and maritime companies who have agreed to grant our cadets practical experience on board their various ship.’’
