Merchant Navy Elects New Executives

The Nigeria Merchant Navy Officers and Water Transport Senior Staff Association now has a new set of national executive council that will oversee the affairs the association for the next three years.
The new leaders emerged at the association’s 3rd triennial delegate’s conference which was held last weekend in Warri, Delta state.

The Nigeria Merchant Navy Officers and Water Transport Senior Staff Association now has a new set of national executive council that will oversee the affairs the association for the next three years.
The new leaders emerged at the association’s 3rd triennial delegate’s conference which was held last weekend in Warri, Delta state.
After a rigorous campaign and subsequent election,  Engr Mathew Alalade, from the shipping branch of the association emerged as the new national president, he succeededs Captain Thomas Kemewerigha who has led the association for six years.
The post of deputy national president went to Comrade Sule Kassim, from National Inland Waterway Authority [NIWA], the position of Treasurer was clinched by Lawrence Olapade from fishing branch of the association.
The election also produced three national trustees, namely; Ayorinde Mercy, from [NIWA], Comrade Cyril Izekwe from Offshore and Comrade Edewor Bernard from fishing branch.
The delegates also elected two auditors. They are Comrades Linus Ibeh and Wale George, while an ex- officio in the person of Comrade T.Z.Yakubu from [NIWA] was also elected.
The association also has new national vice presidents. They are:  Comrade Titus Adoga for NIWA branch, while the offshore branch now has comrade Clement Werenome, fishing branch; Captain Shehu Kosoko. There will be bye election to be conducted later to elected the vice president for shipping branch.
In his acceptance speech, the new national president dedicated his victory to all members of the association.
He promised that the new administration will open a new door that will take the association to the next level, adding that all hands must be on deck to make it a success.
Engr Adelade added that the Nigeria Merchant Navy will partner with all agencies of the government to address issue of piracy in maritime domain, stressing that when vital information are given to government agencies, this will lead to  reduction in the menace.
He assured that he would devote his time to the restoration of the lost glory of the Nigeria Merchant Navy Officers Senior Staff Association.
