The Nigerian Merchant Navy officers and Water Transport Senior Staff Association has postponed its general elections, earlier scheduled to hold in May 2015. It will now hold in October.
The association, which is an affiliate of the Trade Union Congress (TUC) attributed shift to the national and state elections which held between March and April.

President of the seafaring outfit, Engineer Matthew Alalade in an exclusive chat with Shipping Position Daily in Lagos, said that the Central Working Committee and National Executive Council of the association needed to work together to organise the election.
Alalade who is also the auditor of TUC said the delegates conference is for the sole aim of electing new leaders for the association.
"The national executive council have to put heads together on how we are going to move forward and we should conduct delegates conference to elect another set of leaders in the merchant navy"
"We now ratified that by October, we should be fully prepared and hold that delegate conference that month ", he added.
According to him, the elections was supposed to hold in May, but the general elections between March and April gave rise to the new date.
He added that the zones and units will first conduct their various elections before the national executives will hold theirs subsequently.
Alalade noted that no specific date has been picked for the election, but assured that it might hold in the second week of October 2015.
