Ahead of elections into the executive Council of the Women’s International Shipping and Trading Association (WISTA) Nigeria, a leading Presidential aspirant; Mrs Victoria Tarfa has been speaking about her vision for the association, if elected as President.
The election comes up on Thursday, February 20, 2020, and the Senior Manager in the Corporate and Strategic Communications Division of Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) said she has plans to further boost WISTA’s visibility.
She disclosed to our correspondent that her long term membership of WISTA and her deep knowledge of the Nigerian maritime industry which spans about 20 years, put her in good stead to lead the all-women group.
While paying glowing tributes to the founders of the association and its leaders, MrsTarfa said it was time to take WISTA further higher.
“The WISTA that I seek to lead must take its pride of place among players in the Nigerian shipping sector, it must also be ready to contribute to the growth of the industry”, she said, even as she showered praises on the outgoing leadership of the association for what they were able to do.
“It is time to move our WISTA to another level, where we will be counted among critical stakeholders in the Nigerian shipping sector”, she affirmed.
The aspirant said she would leverage on her years of experience working as Project Manager of the Port Management Association of West and Central Africa (PMAWCA).
Mrs Tarfa has also served in the review of the African Maritime Charter in 2008 as PMAWCA Maritime Expert and Port Expert for Africa Development Bank (AfDB) in 2009 and 2010 on Statistic Handbook.
My service at PMAWCA and my current engagement at the Corporate and Strategic Communication Division of the NPA, as well as my networking experience with virtually all countries of West and Central Africa will help me in my responsibilities as WISTA Nigeria President.
My current position as the head of the Industry Associations and Port Promotion Unit in the Corporate and Strategic Communications Division of the NPA also puts me at an advantage, which comes with years of in-depth knowledge of the Nigerian maritime industry where WISTA is a key stakeholder.
Tarfa is bilingual; with a Masters Degree in International Relations, she is a member of the NPA committee on Nigeria-Niger Joint Commission for Trade Facilitation. She has promised to enhance WISTA, visibility, if elected.
