NAC Restates Commitment To Partner SON Over Assemblage of Vehicles

The National Automotive Council (NAC) has reaffirmed its commitment to collaborate with the Standard Organisation of Nigeria (SON) over the new automobile policy, which is already drawing some  vehicles assembly plants into the country.

Director General of NAC; Alhaji Aminu Jalal disclosed this at a press briefing organised by SON in Lagos last week.

Represented by Alhaji Abubakar Dalha, the NAC DG said that the two agencies are collaborating to ensure that quality of vehicles assembled in the country meets international standards.

The National Automotive Council (NAC) has reaffirmed its commitment to collaborate with the Standard Organisation of Nigeria (SON) over the new automobile policy, which is already drawing some  vehicles assembly plants into the country.

Represented by Alhaji Abubakar Dalha, the NAC DG said that the two agencies are collaborating to ensure that quality of vehicles assembled in the country meets international standards.

He said that without good quality standards of assembled vehicles and spare parts, the country cannot hope to of export its products.

Jalal noted that, "standards are synonymous with qualities and without qualities product will hardly sell, we can not make good sales when products do not conform with standards and that is why we at the National Automotive Council is saying that we care about standards what we assemble and manufacture in Nigeria"

" Actually we are collaborating with SON in adopting about 106 automotive standards , safety or unsafe and we are in the progress of adopting more because we want to make sure that all the vehicles assembled in Nigeria conform to international standards"

According to him, NAC appreciates quality of standards and that is why it is collaborating with SON.

He added that the council is already working to ensure that 101 International Standard Organisation (ISO) certification. Speaking further, he said that by 2015, the council may have completed all the requirements required to meet international standard.

He reiterated that SON will play a significant role in complementing the new automotive policy, pointing out  that "whatever we do, we must engage SON because of the mandate given to them"

"We are doing everything possible to make sure that our products conform to standard because without this, the essence of the new policy might be hanging".

On his part, Director General, Standard Organisation of Nigeria SON, Dr. Joseph Odumodu reiterated the agency’s commitment to quality standards of all products in the Nigeria.

Odumodu stated that the agency has a mandate to enforce quality standards and it will not relent until such achievement has been attained.
