…Says ‘Dikko Boys’ still perpetrate corruption‎ under Alli’s watch
The National Association‎ of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF) has called for a shake-up in the Nigeria Customs Service, saying that most officers from the rank of Deputy Comptrollers General, Assistant Comptrollers General and Area Controllers should be sacked.
The association also believed that most of the officers on the rank of Comptrollers during the administration of Abdullahi Inde Dikko should not remain in service, alleging that these are the ones perpetrating corruption in the system.
Speaking with Shipping Position Daily, the Apapa Port chapter chairman of NAGAFF, Mr. Fred Adjuzie alleged that the current Comptroller General of Customs, Col Hameed Alli (rtd) does not have any clear-cut policy for the Customs and this has made corruption to still thrive under him.
Adjuzie alleged that ‘Dikko Controllers’ were the ones promoted to DCGs and ACGs by Alli and that these men pretend when they come before the CG, but underneath they are perpetrating corruption.
‎”Alli does not have any policy, he is carrying billionaires around him, all the so called ACG and Controllers, let him sack all of them, they have made too much money, let them leave the service”
“The ones he sacked recently were already due to retire, from the rank of Controller during Dikko’s administration should not remain in service, let fresh hands come in, these ones don’t have any idea again”
“The man who is there (Alli) is a figure head, these officers are still having their boys on the field reporting to them and collecting bribes. But Dikko that was there before knew all these things and that is why they had problem with him‎” Adjuzie stated.
While reiterating the need for mass shake up in the service, the NAGAFF Chieftain argued that some officers have stayed long in a position for eight to 10 years without transfer.
“Let them bring people from Katsina to Apapa and Tin Can and take people from here to the North, there is nobody born to inherit customs”
“Some people were DSC in Tin Can Port years ago, today they are still there as DC” he said.
Speaking on the ban of rice imports through land borders, Adjuzie said that this would not necessarily translate into more revenue for the Customs service.
According to him, there are lots of borders in the Northern states where rice were being smuggled into the country unchecked‎. He pointed out that since the operation ‘hawk descend’ was launched, frozen poultry products still flood the market.
“Land borders are not all about Seme or Idiroko, there are lots of land borders around Katsina, Sokoto and other Northern States‎ and we have never heard about customs recording any seizures through these places”
‎”Over there, they load 40 to 60 trailers bringing in things without anybody checkmating these areas‎”
“The ban might not necessarily lead to more revenue for the customs, because the smugglers know how to perfect their ways. Are we not still seeing frozen chicken in the market‎? Is it not being sold? So where is it coming from, upon all the whole show of burying of turkeys and chickens”
“These are selective seizures, when 20 trailers pass, one trailer is apprehended and demonstrated on television” he alleged.
