A Chieftain of the National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF), Mr Kanikwu Chucks David, has resigned his membership of the association, even as indications emerged that he may be eyeing a return to the Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA) which he left in 2007.
Kanikwu was until his recent resignation, the chairman of the NAGAFF at the Tin Can Island port.
Announcing his resignation recently in Lagos, Kanikwu who is also the chief executive officer of Owelle Ventures Limited, explained that his decision to quit NAGAFF was voluntary and a desire to find a bigger platform on which he could project the interests of freight forwarding profession.
Acknowledging that his former association; ANLCA is now reformed and devoid of crises, the freight forwarder confessed that he was particularly impressed by the peaceful and matured manner the just-concluded chapter elections in Tin can were conducted and the caliber of members who were elected.
He further disclosed that his decision to quit NAGAFF was not borne out of selfishness or opportunism as some people may want to misconstrue, but by a genuine desire to join forces with other progressives in the other groups to propel the industry forward.
Confirming his preference for ANLCA, he declared willingness to offer his services in any capacity to further consolidate the peace and sanity currently enjoyed in ANLCA.
‘The recently-elected chapter executive members in Tin Can were credible and forthright persons with whom I shared the same passion, zeal and vision for the upliftment of our profession and whom I will like to work with’ David asserted.
‘If I was an opportunist, I should have re-joined the association before now to contest the election or demand for a post as a condition for my re-entry2, he pointed out.
During his two-term short stint with NAGAFF as its public relation officer in 1998 and the chapter chairman until recently, David worked tirelessly as a bridge-bulder to improve the hitherto frosty relationship between the two rival groups in Tin can.
