Barely one year after it was deployed to Lagos ports in order to evacuate broken-down articulated vehicles within the port access road, the towing van that was donated by Nigerian Association of Road Transport Owners (NARTO), has been abandoned.
Our correspondent confirmed that the vehicle has been abandoned for about four months at Mile 2 since it developed a fault.
It was gathered that the van has not been well utilized since it was acquired because of the state of the port access road.

It was gathered that the van has not been well utilized since it was acquired because of the state of the port access road.
When our correspondent visited NARTO, its executive secretary, Mr Aloga Ogbogo expressed dissatisfaction over the development, saying that the breakdown has never been reported to his office.
Ogbogo lamented that the towing van was to serve a particular purpose of moving broken-down vehicles off the port access road.
He however said that the department responsible for fixing the truck will soon work on the van to bring it back to action.
It will be recalled that in April 2014, the NARTO donated the towing van to Lagos State as part of efforts to reduce traffic congestion on the Lagos port access roads.
The fairly-used Renault brand towing equipment from the Netherlands is estimated at about N16 million.
Apart from lifting broken down vehicles along Lagos roads, the tow van can also lift heavy duty trucks from deep gullies along the road.
