The National Association of Stevedoring Companies (NASC) has changed its name to National Association of Stevedoring Operators (NASO).

PG 2
L-R: Atiku Musa, Board Member, Bolaji Sunmola National President, Usman Abdullahi National Financial Secretary and Aliyu Bambado; all of the new-look ‘National Association of Stevedoring Operators’ displaying the new logo of the association during a press briefing in Lagos on Friday

National President of the Association; Mr Bolaji Sunmola disclosed this in a press briefing over the weekend.

He stated that the Federal Ministry of Labour has approved and gave the association a go-ahead to effect the change

Sunmola noted that the change is coming at this time so as to reposition the association for greater efficiency and create a more robust stakeholders’ engagement.

He further informed that the association has gainfully employed several Nigerians, apart from taxes and dues that its members pay to the government, adding that the transformation would enhance more focus of customers to the operators, and the services they render.

Sunmola told journalists that, “the change is coming at a time when we are opening a new Vista with some of our stakeholders particularly the International Oil Companies (IOCs). The change in the new name is borne out of reforms currently being experienced in the maritime industry

“It is also evident that the importance and contributions of the association cannot be overemphasized, through our operations, thousands of Nigerians are gainfully employed, this is also besides the taxes and dues we pay the government”.

According to him, “the significance of this name and logo change is to also lay emphasis, bring more into focus of who we are, what services we render and our chain of relevance and importance in the maritime industry”.

“We are professionals in maritime cargo delivery operations certified by various International Standard Organization, we are repositioning the association for greater efficiency and a more robust stakeholders’ engagement”.

Explaining further, he said, “our operations span across ship to ship, ship to shore, shore to ship, mid-stream, on and off shore cargo delivery operations”.

Other members of the association present at the briefing include: National Deputy President, Aliyu Bambado, National Treasurer, Usman Abdullahi, National Financial Secretary, Usman Abdullahi and a Board Member, Atiku Musa.
