There are indications that, a new  off-dock terminal where imported vehicles can be transferred from the ports is about to spring up.

There are indications that, a new  off-dock terminal where imported vehicles can be transferred from the ports is about to spring up.

Auto Port Weekly has confirmed that work is already in progress at the Kirikiri Lighter Terminal (KLT), from where such vehicles will be transported via road to the terminal.

A source disclosed to our correspondent in Lagos last week that "it is most likely that Five Star Logistics terminal is the owner of the newly constructed vehicle terminal because as we speak PTML already has an organised off-dock terminal at Mile 2 where vehicles are transported from the port through barges".

The source disclosed that the sprawling land can accommodate over 300 units of vehicles at a stretch, pointing out that, "it will even make clearing of vehicles easier for freight agents and their principal”.

Other sources further explained that currently, electrical engineers are on ground ensuring that the place is well illuminated.

According to him, the development will bring about less human traffic at the RoRo ports in Lagos, noting that, with the new facility, congestion at the port will be a thing of the past.

He also disclosed that the new terminal is located at the Kirikiri Lighter Terminal of Phase 1.

But Auto Port Weekly also confirmed from an insider source at Five Star Logistics Terminal that currently vehicles handled by the RoRo terminal are being cleared from KLT Phase 2.

The source mentioned the name of the terminal as Dicon Comet terminal, which according to him, has been in operation since 2012.

"I am not aware about the fact that Five Star is working on a new off-dock terminal at KLT, but I know we have a terminal at KLT where vehicles that are handled by us are transferred to via the road", he added.

Apart from KLT where imported vehicles are transferred by Five Star Logistics,  Clarion Shipping West Africa Limited is also a bonded terminal for vehicles and it is also in partner with the Tin Can Island Port based Roll On Roll Off (RORO) terminal.
