Indian High Commissioner to Nigeria , Mr Mahesh Sachdeva, has disclosed that Nigeria  imported textile products worth US$138 million from India within one year.
Sachdeva, represented by his Deputy, Mr Suresh Bakhijani, said this in Kaduna while marking the Indian Day at the ongoing  34th Kaduna International Trade Fair.
“India exported over 138 million Dollars worth of textile products to Nigeria during last Indian financial year, which ended on March 31, 2012.''
Sachdeva also said that textiles and clothing products worth 1.8 billion Dollars were imported to Nigeria between 2010 and 2011.
The High Commissioner said the products included polyester filament and spun fabrics, polyester/viscose fabrics, made-ups like shawls, scarves and polyester/ viscose yarns.
Sachdeva reiterated the commitment of India towards strengthening business ties with Nigeria, adding that the country was the second largest trading partner to Nigeria after the United States.
“While India purchased crude oil from Nigeria, India exports mainly rice, transport equipment and pharmaceuticals."
He said the Indian Textile Exhibition (INTEXPO) comprising 22 Indian companies would hold between Feb. 26 and 27 in Lagos to strengthen trade between the two countries.
The Commissioner said India had issued out over 40,000 visas to Nigerians in 2012 for medical tourism, businesses and  studies.
In his speech, the President, Kaduna Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (KADCCIMA), Dr. Abdul-Alimi Bello, said the fair was aimed at providing opportunities for local and foreign investors to conduct business relations.
Bello urged investors to tap from the abundant resources available in the country, adding that the government had provided conducive business environment for business to thrive.
