NIMASA Institutes Long Service Award For Staff

The director general, Nigerian Maritime Administration
 and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Dr Ade Dosunmu has disclosed that the agency will institute long service and annual merit awards an incentive to dedicated and honest employees.
Dr Dosunmu gave the cheering news last week at the launching of the agency’s Anti – Corruption and Transparency Unit (ACTU) in Lagos where he also restated commitment to rewarding honest and hardworking employees of the agency.
Addressing senior and lower cadre employees of the agency at the launching, he also disclosed that the agency’s management has approved that every last Friday of every quarter will be devoted to transparency and Servicom – related matters.
The occasion was also attended by lawmakers, representatives of the Independent and Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) as well as the Presidency.
Giving an insight into how the awards will be categorise, he explained that it will encourage service delivery and transparency adding that “we shall also consider awards for departments/units in the agency with the best customer service oriented initiatives”, adding that the Servicom day will be used to interact with the agency’s customers and share experiences.
Dr Dosunmu however urged NIMASA’s employees to imbibe attitudinal change so that its goals can be achieved and called for the adoption of the re-branding Nigeria project.

Delivering a speech at the occasion, Head, Lagos State office of ICPC, Mr Akeem Lawal told participants at the function, especially NIMASA employees that to combat corruption, a code of work and service ethics must be developed, while internal control system in the organisations must be overhauled.  
He also advised that public officials must understand the law and also abide by it, in addition to cultivate personal integrity and avoid conflict of interests, among other attributes.
Also speaking at the even, the chairman of NIMASA’s ACTU, Mr Mathew Egbadon urged employees of the agency to rededicate themselves to efficient service delivery to all stakeholders.
