Determined to ensure the full implementation of the Cabotage act, the Nigerian Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) has said that over 400 Nigerian Seafarers have been placed on board Cabotage vessels.
The Head of Finance, NIMASA; Mrs. Olamide Odunsoya disclosed this recently while giving an abridged faction of the budget performance of the agency in 2017 when the House of Representative, Committee on Maritime Education, Safety and Administration paid an oversight visit to the agency in Lagos
She also said that NIMASA spent over N4 billion on the Nigerian Seafarers Development Program (NSDP) 2017.
She also said that the agency in the same year mapped out N2billion for the Nigerian Maritime University.
She told the lawmakers that: “The NSDP is an ongoing programme of the agency and we were able to finance that project to the tune of over N4billion. And also the directive of the federal government with regards to the Nigerian Maritime University we have mapped out N2billion for this project to be concluded. We also engaged over 400 seafarers on board Cabotage vessels so that Nigerians will be fully engaged in maritime e-domain”.
She said that in view of rebranding the agency, NIMMASA has promoted 644 staff in the year adding that they have also introduce transfer as part of their rebranding exercise.
“Structural and cultural reforms, we are currently rebranding, we have promoted 644 in fiscal year 2017. The current management introduced transfer session as part of the rebranding exercise. We have up scaled the level of training that we receive; we now have specialised training for technical people as well as operational staff. The maritime industry forecast about few weeks ago we had the maritime industry forecast and we now have continuous engagement of our stakeholders just to know their expectations from us and what we can do” she concluded.
