As part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has offered scholarships to three Nigerian students from Imo State who represented the south -east zone and won the 2014 NNPC Annual National Quiz Competition.
The three students from different secondary schools in Owerri bagged the scholarship to any University of their choice to be sponsored by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).

The Group Managing Director of Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Engr. Andrew Yakubu made the disclosure at the 2014 Zonal Finals of the NNPC National Quiz Competition for Secondary Schools, held at the NNPC Towers, Abuja recently.
Shipping Position Daily correspondent who monitored the quiz competition noted that the GMD had further directed for an upward review of the Corporation’s students scholarship for more quality output.
Speaking, the NNPC boss said “the scholarship scheme has not only helped in the development of science and technology in the country, it has gone a long way in assisting the nation's future leaders, particularly the children of the less privileged to prepare towards contributing their own quota to National Development”
“I will like to assure you that we will not relent in supporting this quiz competition and other community efforts aimed at building our national human capability and capacity”
He said that the prices presented to the winners of the competition ranges from automatic undergraduate scholarship as well as other consolation prices. He also directed an upward review in the packages to the participants.
Yakubu said that his is an aspect of social responsibility and commitment by which the corporation tries to affect lives in positive ways.
He said the competition which was in its 13th edition has lived up to the objectives for which it was instituted, adding that most of the winners of the competition in the past have graduated with flying colours from various universities across the world.
