NPA Assures Apapa Community Of Assistance Under CSR

The General Manager, Western Ports of the Nigerian Ports (NPA); Chief Michael Kayode Ajayi has reassured that the agency would continue to accord greater responsibility to the Apapa Community as the host of the two busiest ports in West Africa.
Receiving the delegation from the Apapa Local Government who paid him a courtesy call in his office yesterday, Chief Ajayi reiterated that the relevance of Apapa Community cannot be underrated in the overall activities of the NPA.
The General Manager told the delegation that the NPA was making all necessary efforts to ensure the rehabilitation of the Creek Road and Wharf Road for the restoration of socio-economic activities in the Apapa community as well as to smoothen Port operations.
He expressed the strong optimism that the completion of the soon-to-commence rehabilitation work on the road would restore the lost glory of Apapa as a Community.
Chief Ajayi told the delegation that as part of its palliative measures, the NPA Management has contracted works for the repairs of the Creek road, adding that the work has reached an advanced stage.
The General Manager appealed to the Sole Administrator to devise a means of checking the menace of indiscriminate parking by Tanker Drivers on Apapa Roads, considering the attendant negative consequences of their action to other road users.
He told the delegation that plans by the Authority through the Western Ports Headquarters to improve the sanitary and parking space of the popular “Abuja car park”, located opposite the Tin Can Island Port Complex are afoot and implored the Local Government to partner with the Authority to realize this objective when the project comes on stream.
He called on Apapa Local Government to assist by contacting utility providers along the wharf road to come forward and assist Messrs AG Dangote to locate such in preparation towards the start of the reconstruction work by the Company.
The General Manager assured the visitors of the readiness of the management of Nigerian Ports Authority to partner with Apapa Local Government in all areas of interest under Corporate Social Responsibility.    
Earlier, the Sole Administrator of the  Local Government;  Alhaji Luqman Babatunde had told the General Manager that the delegation was at the zonal headquarters  on a solidarity visit and to express appreciation for the cordial relationship which exists between the Apapa Community and the NPA.
He expressed the need for greater cooperation between the two bodies,  especially in areas which would have direct positive impact on both the socio-economic and business activities of the Apapa community.
