• Seeks Foreign Company to Audit Coys
For the first time since NPA offered its facilities to owners of tank farms to carry out their businesses in Lagos, it is set to carry out a comprehensive audit of the facilities.
To kick start the process, it is considering engaging foreign firms to carry safety and technical audit of the almost 50 facilities that are currently scattered in Apapa and other parts of the commercial city.
Our correspondent learnt last week that NPA hopes to engage "competent consultants with relevant experience to bid for pre-qualification towards preparation of tender documents for a comprehensive safety audit of about fifty (50Nos.) petroleum tank farms in Lagos, Nigeria".
Sources in the agency told our correspondent last week that "the scope of works includes but not limited to; the comprehensive safety audit of tank terminals in the Lagos area and training of Safety, Fire and Occupational Health personnel of the Authority".
Proper audit is expected to commence around October and it may involve physical inspection of the facilities.
Although details of the impending audit were still very sketchy as at press time, we however confirmed that the exercise is not targeted at any specific farm or any particular individual.
Our source said it was important to clear the air ahead of any possible insinuation.
"We remember that when a similar exercise was carried out in the past, some people read meanings into it", he assured.
It was not possible to get reactions to the development from oil and gas sector operators as at press time.
