The container offices are said to constitute security risk and also a violation of the dictates of the International Ships and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code.
The temporary container offices being used by chapter executive of both ANLCA and NAGAFF within the precincts of PTML at Tin Can Port is expected to be pulled down any moment from now by the Nigerian Ports Authourity (NPA)
The container offices are said to constitute security risk and also a violation of the dictates of the International Ships and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code.
The two associations were also accused of behaving in like manners with tanker and trailer drivers and commercial motor cycle riders, who regularly and consistently populate the PTML environment.
The move to pull down the structures was said to have been at the instance of the management of Port and Terminal Multiservice Limited, which reportedly request the Police authorities and NPA, for assistance in sanitizing the environment.
It was confirmed that illegal structures are expected to be pulled down by last weekend. Already, the leadership of the two associations have been ordered to remove their personal belongings from the container offices.
A last minute effort to starve-off the demolition failed last Friday as the national leadership of the two associations failed to be convinced by their chapter leadership that the actions of NPA and the Police was not in order.
The chapter leaders were however advised to do a joint letter to NPA, Commissioner Police in charge of Western ports and Grimaldi to express fear of security challenges, after the removal of the containers.
The two associations were again requested to source for land or spaces to build their offices rather than operate from containers and kiosks around the port environment.
The meeting also acknowledged that apart from making PTML an ISPS Code complaint port, the current security situation in the country does not permit choking the port environment with persons who do not have any business being around there.
The national leadership of ANLCA was led to the meeting by its national president; Prince Olayiwola Shittu, while NAGAFF was led by its deputy president, Barrister Fred Akhokia
