Obong of Calabar, Edidem Okon Abasi, has pledged the support of his community to the ongoing Oando gas pipeline project in the state, even as he commended the downstream oil and gas marketing giants for its contributions to social and economic development of the state
The traditional ruler gave the assurances while inspecting the site of the project in Calabar where he expressed appreciation for the project saying that it was a welcome development that will also enhance employment and also empower the youths in the state.
According to  Oando’s head of Corporate Communication, Mr. Meka Olowola the royal father said that the gas pipeline project would also foster industrial development of the state and urged both local and foreign investors to come to the state to enhance its development.
Olowola told NAN that the company was working to ensure that the gas pipeline project was completed on schedule, just as he explained that Oando’s plan was to link the country with its network of gas pipelines, stressing that the project would be executed in phases.
"We are taking it in bits, according to demand, just like the Lagos franchise, which was executed in three phases. Our company’s primary objective is to be the foremost gas provider in Nigeria and to ensure that every area of need is connected to the grid," he said.
Work on the 128-km gas project from Akwa-Ibom to Cross River began in April to supply natural gas to industries in the South-East zone of the country.
