For the first time in Ocean Network Express’s (ONE) history, the company christened a newbuild vessel that they own and operate. The vessel, christened the ONE SPARKLE, strengthened ONE’s competitive position in the global maritime industry along with showcasing their commitment to sustainable practices.
The ONE SPARKLE was built at Hyundai Heavy Industries in Ulsan, South Korea. It features an optimized hull design for increased efficiency, cutting-edge energy-saving devices, integration of smart technology on the vessel for optimizing performance, and a shore power connection for zero emissions at ports.
The vessel is a Singapore-registered container carrier that has a carrying capacity of 13,800 TEUs. The vessel is also dual-fuel compatible, being capable of operating on methanol and ammonia. This also makes the vessel future-ready as it can switch to these environmentally friendly fuels if required.
The ONE SPARKLE is one of a series of 20 vessels that have been placed on order by ONE in Korea and Japan. These vessels are expected to be delivered in 2025 and 2026.
