The Association of Motor Dealers of Nigeria, Ogun state chapter has decried the high rate of charges by the Nigeria Customs Service on imported vehicles through the seaport.
The state chairman of AMDON, Samuel Sonde, lamented that the development has been forcing some members to quit the business.
Sonde said this last week during the inauguration of Ijebu zone of the association, held at Imowo in Ijebu-Ode area of Ogun state.
The state chairman, however, appealed to the federal government to reduce the duty from the current rate of 70 per cent to 35 per cent.
He said, “The challenges we are facing is the high tariff by the customs agency on cars that we are clearing.
“This policy has changed the business atmosphere because the tariff has become unbearable for our members.
“We appeal to the federal government to assist by reducing the custom duties on imported cars to 35 per cent.
