The Ogun State Command, of the Nigeria Customs Service has released its second quarter 2014 report, even as revenue realized stood at N1, 653,505,168.32 as against the N 1,361,727,788.00 recorded same period in 2013.
This, according to the command, shows a progressive revenue collection difference of N291, 777,380.32.

A statement made available to Shipping Position Daily, last Friday by the command’s Public Relations Officer, Usman Abubakar, quoted the Command’s area controller; Comptroller Haruna Mahmoud as saying that its officers and men are pro-actively positioned and well motivated to pursue the anti-smuggling campaigns with more commitment which, he said resulted to the number of seizures being recorded daily.
“I make it bold to state that since I assumed office as the Ogun Area Controller in December 4, 2013 the Command has witnessed meaningful progress, improved revenue collection, trade facilitation and high number of Seizures”.
“For the appraisal of our 2nd quarter activity for this year, the revenue realized stood at N1, 653,505,168.32 as against N 1,361,727,788.00 recorded same period in 2013. This shows a progressive revenue collection difference of N291, 777,380.32”
“In our anti-smuggling drive, officers and men are now pro-actively positioned and motivated to pursue the anti-smuggling campaigns with more commitment. The result is the huge number of Seizures being recorded on daily basis. For the 2nd quarter of this year,2014 314 Seizures with DPV of N507,427,909.00 were made, compared to 194 Seizures with DPV of N205,227,728.00 recorded in the same period in 2013”
Some of the items seized by the command Seizures in the second quarter of the year are; vehicles, Frozen Poultry Products, Rice, Shoes and other sundry goods.
According to him, the success recorded in the anti-smuggling operations is attributable to the commitment to duty, due to diligence adopted by officers in the field and the right leadership provided by the management.
He said, that the ECOWAS Transit Trade on imported vehicles which was officially flagged-off a couple of months ago has already been gaining commendations from both side of the divide.
Mahmoud reiterated that security agents, clearing and forwarding agents of both sides have been commending the effort of the Comptroller General of Customs for making the event possible pointing out that there has been astronomical increase in the number of vehicles handed over by the Beninnoise Customs. This also has affected the revenue collection on imported vehicles.
