The Ogun Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE) says it will collaborate with other sister agencies in apprehending unlatched container on transit in the state.
Mr Adekunle Ajibade, Sango-Ota Area Commander of the agency agency, said in Ota, Ogun on Tuesday.
He spoke on behalf of the Corps’ Commander of TRACE, Mr Olaseni Ogunyemi.
According to Ogunyemi, this exercise is in line with the directive of the state government to all trucks carrying containers.
The TRACE boss said that the rate of accidents involving unlatched containers were alarming, worrisome and unbearable, adding that that agency would no longer allow these incessant cases of containers falling-off trucks.
Ogunyemi said that majority of the trucks and trailers, apart from being not road worthy, carried unlatched containers resulting to unnecessary accidents and lost of lives.
He said that the agency’s operation would also focus on offences of driving without valid licence, driving under influence of drugs and alcohol and driving with worn-out tyres.
He said that erring drivers apprehended would be made to go for psychiatric test, his vehicle confiscated and as well prosecuted.
Ogunyemi called on logistics companies to ensure that their drivers are well trained with valid driver’s licence and road worthy vehicles before embarking on a journey.
He said that the TRACE and other sister agencies have commenced rigorous public enlightenment in trucks and trailers park across the state.
The TRACE official enjoined motorists to always obey traffic rules while driving, adding that the agency had zero tolerance for traffic indiscipline that could endanger other peoples’ lives and property from avoidable crashes.
Ogunyemi charged the operatives to always consider their safety first in the cause of discharging their duties.
