The Nigerian Labor Congress (NLC) Lagos Chapter election that was supposed to hold in Lagos last week suddenly took a drastic turn into a free for all as the members of the National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) who had boycotted the election process refused to participate in the actual voting.

Shipping Position Weekly gathered that the NLC Lagos chapter has been divided into two factions namely the private sector and the public sector and that there are eight positions that are currently being contested for; the eight positions are also said to have been divided equally among the two factions.
An inside source in the NUPENG who was at the elections boasted to our correspondent after the process ended abruptly that “we did not allow them to hold the election and before you know it, everywhere was scattered and we started throwing chairs and pure water at one another, since they refused to agree to our terms, it ended just like that of the lawmakers” he said.
It was gathered that the Lagos zonal chairman of the NUPENG, Alhaji Nojeem Korodo is gunning for the post of treasurer in the election, but he is being challenged by Mr. S.K Idowu who is from the National Union of Teachers (NUT).
A source who was also present at the session alleged that “it was at the point of accreditation that the NUPENG members refused to go out, they also knew that their support base was not all that strong, in fact the whole process was distorted by them”.
The NPA branch president of the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria, Comrade Leke Sani who is also contesting for the post of vice chairman in the election also told our correspondent that the election has been suspended till further notice.
“We will know what the next step is after the returning officers who came from Abuja to monitor the election process have turned- in their reports”, he told our correspondent last week.
