Port Harcourt Port Is Functional, Not Dead, Says Customs Area Controller

The new Customs Area Controller (CAC) Area I, Port Harcourt,  Dan Garba Kuffi has said that contrary to some misconceptions about Port Harcourt port, the oldest eastern port is alive and functional.
Mr Kuffi made this declaration last week in his office in Port Harcourt during an interactive   session with some maritime reporters.

The new Customs Area Controller (CAC) Area I, Port Harcourt,  Dan Garba Kuffi has said that contrary to some misconceptions about Port Harcourt port, the oldest eastern port is alive and functional.
Mr Kuffi made this declaration last week in his office in Port Harcourt during an interactive   session with some maritime reporters.
Mr Kuffii who was recently reassigned from Kaduna Zone of the Nigeria Customs Command to Port Harcourt noted that he has assumed office and that from what he has seen so far, the Port Harcourt ports is alive and has the potentials not only to meet its revenue target, but to exceed it.
“Port Harcourt ports are functional not dead. The bulk of our revenue here is coming from bulk cargo handling, which ought not to be, because of low cargo traffic in the ports” Mr Kuffi stated.
He is however optimistic that with the support and collaboration of other stakeholders, including the media, the advantages of importers in the Eastern Zone to route their cargo through Port Harcourt ports will be emphasized.
“Bulk cargo is a one way thing, although, we will operate within the bench mark, but we will also go all out to woo importers to patronize Port Harcourt ports as a way to shore up our revenue base”,  the customs Controller stressed.
He assured that he will go all out to tackle every corrupt tendency in his command, so as not to leave any stone unturned in shoring up the revenue base of the command.
He explained that he has zero-tolerance for corruption and assured that the issue of lower duty billing which some officers have been accused of will be checked, as a way to shore up the revenue base of his command. He describe the meeting with the press as critical and observed that he is operating an open door policy, which means that all enquires and clarifications on issues will be entertained unhindered.
He said that this year, the command intend to improve the monthly revenue to N4 billion and above, as against last year N2 billion revenue target.
