Port manager solicits stakeholders’ cooperation … As NARTO Acquires Buses for Members’ In-port Movement

The port manager Lagos Ports Complex (LPC), Mr. Joshua Asanga has called on all stakeholders in the port system to work hand in hand with Nigerian Ports Authority so as to meet the International Maritime Organization (IMO) ports standardization requirement.
He made this call in Lagos last week, when officials and members of the Nigerian Association of Road Transport Owners (NARTO), led by their head of operations, Mr. Aloge Ogbogo presented two newly acquired buses to the premier port in line with the International Ships and Ports Facility Security (ISPS) code guidelines, especially in respect of its policy on  ‘bussing’ and ‘bus-out’ of persons in the ports.  This effort is in line with the current entry and exit procedure put in place by the port management to reduce incidences of unauthorized access into the port.
Mr. Asanga commended the (NARTO) group for toeing this line of change and encouraged them to continue the campaign in the overall interest of the port and the Nation.
Responding, M r. Ogbogo expressed the association’s readiness to work in accordance with Nigerian Ports Authority and the Concessionaires guidelines. He reiterated that in compliance of the ISPS Code, the first step taken by NARTO was to produce Reflective Jackets for its members, with a code and number on it for easy identification and location of members. This also doubles as a measure to curb stealing and vandalism in the ports.
The NARTO group expressed gratitude to NPA, for the cordial relationship they have enjoyed in the course of doing their job and promised to do whatever needs to be done in compliance with the rules of the port.
