Crisis of confidence has hit the Nigerian Shipowners Association (NISA) days after its high wired elections, which saw the emergence of Capt Dada Labinjo.
There are indications that all is not well presently as two officials of the newly-elected officers have resigned from the executives.

The embattled officers of NISA raised questions over the election that saw the emergence of Capt Labinjo as the president of the association.

Shipping Position Daily gathered from a statement sighted yesterday, that the Lagos coordinator of NISA and Managing Director of C and I Leasing; Chief Ndu Chukwemeka has resigned.

Another executive member who has also reportedly resigned his appointment is the Port Harcourt coordinator of NISA; Dr. Emi Membere.

In a statement to the former NISA chairman; Chief Isaac Jolapomo and the association’s electoral committee, the embattled member said that: "While we commend you and the initial team including Capt. Labinjo for initiating, midwiving and piloting ISAN, the association reached its peak years ago and many serious ship owners lost interest, leading to apathy and thus she was unable to meet members expectations.

"However the awareness that a change of guard was imminent saw the renewed interest of many old and new members culminating in the sacrifice of all in camping for two days last week at the Rockview Hotel Apapa to elect NEW officers to take the organization to the next level, as everyone present attested.

"The result did not meet the expectations of the majority of Shipowners present as that will tantamount to continuation of whatever reasons many members lost interest and called for change.” he pointed out.
In the letter, Dr Emi Membere-Otaji added however that, “I have nothing against the person of Capt. Labinjo but as Secretary General for decades, his presidency will not provide the desired change to take us to the next level.

Consequently without pre-empting the outcome of the protest to the Appeal Committee, l wish to put on NOTICE that if status quo remains, l will be unable to function as your Port Harcourt Coordinator and will resign from the post.

A strange dimension was however added by the Lagos coordinator; Ndu Chukwuemeka, who allegedly bluntly declared that he could not ‘work in isolation’because majority of the executives are from the south western part of the country.
Another source disclosed that the Lagos coordinator, it was gathered alleged that a particular contestant was trying to usurp the position with the backing of some strong officials of the association, hence his decision to resign.

The C and I Leasing boss has reportedly also tendered his letter of resignation.
