The introduction of operation "hawk descend" by the Nigeria Customs Service has recorded some level of successes, so says the Poultry Association of Nigeria (PAN)

The introduction of operation "hawk descend" by the Nigeria Customs Service has recorded some level of successes, so says the Poultry Association of Nigeria (PAN)

The operators confirmed that there has been massive drop on the commodities in the Nigerian market and the Customs has succeeded to a large extent by halting  smuggling activities surrounding imported poultry products.

PAN also commended Customs Area Controller, Western Marine Command, Comptroller Yusuf Umar for taking the lead by  intercepting the highest number of frozen poultry products since its introduction on July 8th 2015.

In a statement made available to Shipping Position Daily in Lagos, last week by the Director General of PAN; Mr. Onallo Akpan described the Western Marine seizures as unprecedented, even as he added that ‘’operation hawk descend’’ has been successful.

Akpan said that the customs marine command has displayed gallantry performance on the seizures of poultry products within the creeks connecting Nigeria and Benin Republic, urging the command's officers to run the smugglers out of their illicit trade.

The Director General stressed that, "leadership of the Poultry Association of Nigeria and the entire Nigerian Poultry Farmers appreciate you and officers of your command for the excellent and outstanding performance through various acts of onslaught, arrest and confiscation of smuggled poultry products into the country"

"This is very unprecedented, as we can boldly say that the operation "hawk descend" is a highly successful exercise"

"We are proud of your zeal and patriotism to duty, as our prayers is that may the good God continue to guide and protect you in the task ahead"

Meanwhile the Public Relations Officer of the command, Ngozi Okwara told our correspondent that the
command has seized 5083 cartons of poultry products since inception of the exercise.
According to her, the launch has indeed geared the officers and men of the Western Marine Command to go all out in fighting smuggling activities on the waterways.

She also stressed that the large number of seized products gave rise to the laudable remarks by operators in poultry products business.

Okwara added that the waterways are adequately manned by officers and men of the command adding that "we are in effective control of the waterways in the Western  region of the country".
