PTI Effurun Trains Delta Youths On ICT

The Principal, Petroleum Training Institute (PTI), Effurun, Delta, Dr Henry Adimula, says Information and Communications Technology (ICT) skills are veritable tools for survival in today’s global market.

Adimula made the assertion last week in Effurun, during the beginning of a three-month Computer Competency Skills Acquisition Training organised for some Delta youths.

The youths were drawn from the 24 kingdoms across the Urhoboland of Delta.

The principal said that the training was part of the institution’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) to its host communities.

He said that the training was geared towards equipping the youths with skills on ICT for digital business and ee-transaction.

Adimula added that computer knowledge was one of the key skills to survive in today’s market horizon, particularly in the era of COVID-19 pandemic.

“ICT is what is trending now and we know the value of this to the Nigerian economy.

“The opportunities are available; the options are there and when you are trained in computer, you can actually function in any field.

“That was why we deliberately chose to train them in computer.

“We believe that by the time the trainees are done, they will be better placed to be entrepreneurs and function in the economy,” Adimula said.

The principal said that the project would be funded from the Internally Generated Revenue of the institute, with an estimated cost of N4 million.

Also speaking, Prof. Sunny Awhefeada, a lecturer at the Delta University (DELSU), Abraka, described ICT development as the ‘new world order.’

He urged the trainees to exercise patience and diligence as well as show commitment to the programme, noting that training was another means of reducing unemployment and insecurity in the country.

In his remarks, Anthony Onoharigho, the first Vice President of the Urhobo Progress Union (UPU), urged the beneficiaries to take advantage of the training to equip themselves.

“One of the best things you can do for people is to train them,” he said.
