In spite of the nationwide strike action at the beginning of the year, the Ports and Terminal Multiservices Limited (PTML) command of the Nigeria Custom Service says it has experienced a boost in its revenue collection profile compared to how it fared last year.
In its half year report which signed by the image maker of the command, Mr. Steve Okonmah and which made available to Shipping Position Daily, the command collected N33,716,362,583 between January and June this year as against the N21,651,058,109 it realized within the same period in 2011.

In its half year report which signed by the image maker of the command, Mr. Steve Okonmah and which made available to Shipping Position Daily, the command collected N33,716,362,583 between January and June this year as against the N21,651,058,109 it realized within the same period in 2011.
A further analysis of the figures shows that there was a 56% increase in revenue to the tune of N12, 056,304,474.00 for the corresponding year.
According to the report, the command also collected N6, 605,596,590 for the month of July as against the N4, 129,696,866 it realized in the same month of last year. This shows an increase of 60%, or an increase of N2, 475,899,724.
Within the period under review, the command also reported that it impounded three units of 40-foot containers and one unit of 20-foot container for false declaration and containing prohibited items. The seizures had Duty Paid Value of N30, 868,532.
Okonmah however acknowledged that the achievement recorded at the command was due to the relentless effort of the Area Controller of the command, Comptroller. Tunji Aremu in making sure that there is a solid relationship among the major players at the command.
The Comptroller is “bringing together and strengthening the peace and harmony which exists between the stakeholders, service providers, terminal operators and the officers of the command”, he said.
Continuing, he promised that “there is still room for improvement and by the grace of God, and also owing to the leadership style of the Area Controller, we shall not only meet our target, but we shall surpass it” he assured.
