Rep criticizes poor implementation of 2008 budget

THE poor condition of roads across the country has been blamed on
 the poor implementation of the 2008 budget by the Federal Ministry of Works.
The member representing Ndokwa/Ukwuani Federal Constituency of Delta in the House of Representatives, Chief Charles Onyekweli, spoke to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Asaba on the issue.
Onyekweli said that the 2008 financial year budgetary performance indicated that only 30 per cent implementation of the budget was achieved.
He said that the Federal Ministry of Works had by its action demonstrated lack of absorptive capacity, stressing that money was available, but could not be used.
The lawmaker also said that by the foregoing, it meant that one year’s job would now be carried out in two years.
Onyekweli said that this year’s budget had made provision for a deficit budget, and that the Federal Government had also tried to address the problem of Nigerian roads.
On the state of Aboh Road in the Ndokwa/Ukwuani constituency, the lawmaker said that work on the road had already been awarded by the Delta State government.
He said that Delta government was using DESOPADEC as an agency of government for the rehabilitation of the road, adding that the road would be completed before the rainy season.
