Fresh revelations emerged last week linking retired assistant comptroller general of Customs, Mr Ade Fadahunsi (MFR) to the release of the former national president of National Council of Managing Directors of Licensed Customs Agents, Mr Lucky Amiwero from Kirikiri prison after spending about one week.
Amiwero was unexpectedly released last Tuesday wing largely to the intervention of Mr Fadahunsi who reportedly asked his lawyers to take over Amiwero’s case and ensure that the bail conditions were met.
Fadahunsi was reported to have also detailed some leading licensed customs agents to proceed to the magistrate court in Apapa where the N1million bail conditions for Amiwero, his wife and two children were spelt out.
Mr Amiwero’s journey to Kirikiri started after he was reported to have refused arrests by the Police and allegedly locking the gates of his compound on one of the two policemen who had come from the Trinity Police station to effect his arrest. He was arrested along with his wife and two members of his family.
He was arraigned alongside his family mebers before the magistrate at Apapa Magistrate court on a five count charge; among which was: abduction of a policeman, assault, resisting arrest and fraud. He pleaded not guilty, the magistrate granted him bail and was subsequently ordered to proceed to Kirikiri prison until the bail bond of N250,000 each was met.
Sources close to some of those who went to ensure that Mr Fadahunsi’s orders were obeyed confirmed that at least one member each from the Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents and the National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders were at of the team that went for the bail.
