Rivers donates boats, fishing gears to Okrika fishermen

At least 11 fishermen from Okrika area of Rivers State have be come beneficiaries of boats and fishing gears from the Rivers State Government.
The gesture, according to Commissioner for Health, Dr. Samson Parker who is also an indigene of Okrika is to empower the beneficiaries economically as part of the fulfilment of government promises.  Speaking during the ceremony, the commissioner extolled the virtues of good governance by the state governor, Rotimi Amaechi. He said that by this act, government is ensuring provision of food and security for the people.
Dr. Parker also reiterated that the presentation of the items was a practical demonstration of the governor’s desire to empower Okrika fishermen. He urged them to make good use of the equipment to stimulate economic activities in the area.
Speaking earlier, Special Adviser to the governor on Aqua-culture and deep- sea fishing Hon. Kurotamunoye Briggs, appealed for support for the governor in his efforts to better the lot of the people of the state.
He advised them to make sure that the on-going peace process in Okrika land is sustained, and tasked them to ensure effective utilisation of the boats and fishing gears adding that the state government is determined to executive proactive economic initiatives that would empower the poor in the society.
Among the dignitaries that witnessed the presentation was the chairman of the council, and manager of special projects, Rivers State sustainable development agency, Mr. Sylvester Okoh. 
The beneficiaries expressed their deep appreciation to the state government and promised to make good use of the boats and fishing gears donated to them.
