ROUNDTABLE ON SHIPPING AND OIL DEVELOPMENT IN AFRICA

Leading shipping and oil experts in Africa are set to meet in Accra (Ghana) to evolve strategies that would make indigenous players globally competitive and ensure they enjoy greater role in the provision and management of maritime and oil projects in the continent.
The two- day event under the auspices of the Pan African Shipping & Oil Roundtable will hold on 9th and 10th March 2011, at Alisa Hotels, Accra Ghana. It is being facilitated by the publishers of Africa Shipping & Oil Digest in collaboration with West Coast Business Support Services Limited.

The roundtable with the theme “Making Shipping and Energy Supply in Africa Globally Competitive” will be chaired by the Ghana’s maritime icon, Alhaji Hon. Asoma Abu Banda, Executive Chairman of ANTRAX Group. Special Visitors are Alhaji Dauda Collins, Honourable Minister of Transport, Ghana; Alhaji Yusuf Suleimon, Honourable Minister of Transport, Nigeria; Dr. Joe Oteng-Adjei, Honourable Minister of Energy, Ghana.
Renowned experts would speak on topics that include Effective Governance Structure for Cost Effective Shipping Services in Africa; Impact of Liner Conferences on Africa’s Trade; Making Trade Connectivity in Africa Globally Competitive; Future Development Strategies for Secured Energy Supplies in Africa; Local Content Policy Issues in Maritime Infrastructure and Transport and Effective Financing Options for Shipping, Oil and Gas Ventures.
Africa is regarded as the main reservoir of the world’s natural resources with prospects of becoming the next global driver of growth. The Accra event is expected to review the structural and technical factors limiting the continent’s ability to build institutions that could effectively compete in the international arena.
The roundtable provides the ideal platform for policy makers, entrepreneurs and the academia to deliberate and proffer appropriate strategies to enhance the continent’s competitiveness in the transport and energy sectors, as they are very critical to current efforts aimed at the eradication of poverty in Africa. It is also the ideal forum for investors and decision makers to network, show case new services and ideas as well as consummate profitable deals.
A guided tour of maritime and oil facilities in Ghana for delegates is scheduled for 8th March 2011, as a prelude to the main event. The roundtable would be capped by a special dinner ceremony where four African political leaders along with deserving individuals and corporate bodies would be honoured.
