The Seme Command of Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) yesterday said it collected N598.1 million as revenue for the month of May.
The new spokesman for the command, Mr Afix Ajao, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Seme that the revenue generated was N114 million lower than the N712 million generated in April.
“In the month of May, the revenue the command generated was lower than the previous month because trading activities were low.

“As the year goes on, our revenue generation will get higher and we will definitely be able to surpass our monthly target of N1.1 billion,’’ he said.
Ajao said that the command generated N9.6 billion in 2014, adding that the figure was N3.4billion less than the N13 billion targeted for the year.
He assured that the command would surpass the N13 billion target set for the command in 2015.
He said the command made 39 seizures in the month of May with a Duty Paid Value (DPV) of N4 million.
Ajao said the seized items, included bags of rice, frozen poultry products, vegetable oil, vehicles, amongst others.
The spokesman urged Nigerians to desist from smuggling due to its adverse effect on the economy.
“Smuggling is not good for the economy so we must work together to save our economy and embrace legitimate trade.
“Illegal trades erode the national wealth so we must learn not to partake in such,’’ he said.
