MARAN Caretaker Committee

The Seme Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has sustained its revenue drive into 2026, recording about N2 billion in revenue within the first three weeks of the year.

The development follows the command’s 2025 performance, during which it generated a total of N15.6 billion, including N3.6 billion recorded in December alone.

The Controller of the Seme Command, Comptroller Wale Adenuga, disclosed the 2026 revenue figures while receiving the Executive members of the Caretaker Committee of the Maritime Reporters Association of Nigeria (MARAN), led by its Chairman, Mr. Tunde Ayodele, during a courtesy visit to his office on January 21, 2026.

Adenuga said the command is determined to surpass its 2025 revenue performance, noting that officers and men of the command remain motivated to sustain the current momentum.

He attributed the revenue performance to continuous support from the Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, and the management of the Service, adding that the command would maintain the tempo in the months ahead.

While speaking on anti-smuggling operations, the Controller stated that the command has not relaxed its enforcement efforts in the new year, stressing that surveillance has been intensified both along smuggling routes and at distribution points within markets.

According to him, anti-smuggling officers of the command recently carried out a raid at the Badagry market, a known distribution point for smuggled rice, where over 200 bags of smuggled rice were seized on January 21, 2026.

“We have just raided the Badagry roundabout where smuggled rice is being assembled and sold. We had repeatedly warned the traders to desist from the act and vacate the area,” Adenuga said.

He added that appeals had previously been made through the traditional institution to discourage the activity, explaining that smugglers often bring rice in through the creeks before selling it openly at the roundabout.

Adenuga said the operation would be sustained until the area is completely cleared of illegal trading activities, describing the location as a notorious hub for smuggled rice.

The Controller also assured MARAN of the command’s support, pledging continued collaboration with the association on programmes of mutual interest.

Earlier, MARAN Caretaker Committee Chairman, Mr. Tunde Ayodele, congratulated Adenuga on his appointment as Controller of the Seme Command, describing it as a reflection of the confidence of the NCS management in his leadership capacity.

Ayodele assured the Controller of MARAN’s support, noting that the association had observed noticeable changes in border operations at Seme since Adenuga assumed duty.

He recalled the Controller’s previous role at the Apapa Command, where he served as Deputy Comptroller in charge of revenue, describing his contribution as instrumental to the revenue performance recorded at the command during that period.

Meanwhile, the Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, has paid a condolence visit to the palace of the late Oba of Badagry.

The CGC was represented by Comptroller Wale Adenuga, who conveyed the Service’s sympathies to the chiefs and people of the Badagry Kingdom during a visit to the palace on January 21, 2026.
