Senate tasks Minister on N100billion owed local contactors

In an apparent reaction to series of petitions and appeals from local contractors, the Senate committee on local and foreign debts has written to the ministry of finance to liquidate the N100 billion owed contractors.
Saying that the money will assist in revitalising the economy, the chairman of the committee Senator Ehigie, Uzamere expressed this wish via a letter he forwarded to the minister of finance, Dr.  Mansur Mukhtar.
The letter which was sighted by Shipping Position Weekly reads in part. “As you assume duties, we wish -to intimate you of the plight of many Nigerians being owed by ministries, departments and agencies of the Federal Government.
Appealing to the minister and alluding to his past exploits in debt relief issues, the letter added that “the committee therefore urges you to tackle this local contractor debt challenge by evolving workable strategies to liquidate these debts. Nigerians expect no less of all you gave to exit the country from Paris and London Clubs’ debts,” he said.
“Your patriotic bent, vast experience, enviable track record of selfless service and presence of mind had singled you out for this appointment.”
