The Nigerian Shippers Council (NSC) has resuscitated the once- comatose Rivers\Bayelsa States’ Shippers’ Association. The association has ceased to function since 2005.
Speaking during a meeting convened by the Nigerian Shippers’ Council, Mr. Maurice Effanga, the zonal co-ordinator of the agency said the management of the Council has upgraded its Port Harcourt office to a zonal co-ordinating status to cover the entire south-south states and assured the association of the council’s continuous support.
The zonal co-ordinator who convened the meeting in his office pointed out that the Rivers\Bayelsa shippers’ association had seized to function since 2005, and lamented that it was unacceptable to him, hence the need for the co-ordinating office to resurrect the association, this time on a more serious platform to register genuine shippers.
While recounting the benefits of the association, he encouraged them to register with the association so as to tap into the numerous benefits therein, even as he said that one of the functions of the Shippers’ Council is the formation of shippers’ associations across the country.
He said the Council places a highly regards the shippers’ associations and promised that it will give the association all the support it needs to succeed this time around and expressed satisfaction with the response of the shippers to the council’s call even as he emphasised that there will be no room for petty politics in the association.
“Only genuine and serious shipping companies will be accommodated in the association”, he said.
