Shippers’ Council to Go Live with Digital ECM Platform Soon

The Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC) is nearing completion of its much-anticipated digital migration to the Enterprise Content Management (ECM) platform, with the official launch scheduled to take place.

The ECM initiative of the Council is a core part of its digital transformation agenda aimed at eliminating paper-based operations and improving efficiency across all departments. In simple terms, ECM is a digital system that manages an organization’s documents, records, and workflow electronically, from creation to storage, retrieval, and eventual disposal in a secure and centralized way.

This follows the Council’s earlier commitment to fully migrate its internal processes, including memos, approvals, correspondences, and record-keeping — to the ECM platform, in line with the directive of its Executive Secretary and Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Akutah Pius Ukeyima.

Recall that in July 2025, during the opening of the NSC’s Special Management Retreat in Lagos, Dr. Akutah unveiled a five-year reform agenda focused on performance-driven operations, full digital transformation, and infrastructure delivery. He emphasized that the Council could no longer operate as a bureaucracy driven by paperwork, stressing the need for measurable results and operational efficiency.

Dr. Akutah had earlier cautioned that departments that fail to comply with the ECM migration directive would face administrative sanctions, underscoring the Council’s resolve to institutionalize a digital-first culture in line with global best practices.

Providing an update on the migration process, the Deputy Director of ICT at the Council, Mr. Benjamin Ivwighreghweta, in an exclusive chat with our correspondent, confirmed that the ECM application has already been implemented and hosted on a secure cloud platform.

“The application has been implemented. It is currently in the cloud and can be accessed by us. Training has been done, and it is being tested by the various departments,” Ivwighreghweta said.

According to him, the testing phase is part of the Council’s efforts to ensure smooth functionality across all departments before the system goes live. “We are preparing for the launch before we eventually go live. The launching will be done in November,” he assured
