Maritime stakeholders will on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, converge in Lagos for the third edition of the Maritime Annual Maritime Lecture (MAMAL), organised by the Maritime Reporters Association of Nigeria (MARAN).
The event, billed to hold at Four Points by Sheraton, Victoria Island, will focus on the theme: “Addressing the Burden of War Risk Insurance on Nigeria’s Maritime Trade.”
The Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, will attend as Special Guest of Honour, alongside major industry regulators, operators, and security stakeholders.
Prominent participants expected include the Director General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Dr. Dayo Mobereola; Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Shippers’ Council, Barr. Pius Akutah Ukeyima; Flag Officer Commanding Western Naval Command, Rear Admiral Gregory Oaemen; and the Executive Director (Operations & Technical) of Tantita Security Services, Capt. Warredi Enisuoh.
The lecture will be chaired by Engr. Greg Ogbeifun, Chairman of Starzs Investment Ltd, while maritime lawyer, Dr. Emeka Akabogu, will deliver the keynote address. Other guests of honour include Capt. Emmanuel Ihenacho, Chairman of Integrated Oil & Gas.
Speaking ahead of the event, MARAN President, Godfrey Bivbere, said the forum would provide an opportunity for frank discussions and pragmatic solutions to ease the heavy financial burden of war risk insurance premiums on vessels calling at Nigerian ports.
“The outcome of this lecture will serve as a guide for policymakers and industry players in tackling this issue. This year’s edition promises to be impactful and solution-driven, given the calibre of participants and the relevance of the theme,” Bivbere stated.
Now in its third edition, MAMAL has evolved into a key platform for dialogue on critical challenges affecting the growth and sustainability of Nigeria’s maritime sector.
