The Petroleum Tanker Drivers (PTD) branch of the National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) has threatened to withdraw its service if the Eleme Junction road leading the Port Harcourt refinery in Rivers State, is not repaired.
Giving this warning in Lagos yesterday, the National President of the Petroleum Tanker Drivers, Comrade Salimon Akanni Oladiti said that some members of the group have suffered various degree of injuries as a result of the accident caused by bad roads.

Giving this warning in Lagos yesterday, the National President of the Petroleum Tanker Drivers, Comrade Salimon Akanni Oladiti said that some members of the group have suffered various degree of injuries as a result of the accident caused by bad roads.
Oladiti also said that as result of the state of that particular junction, tankers now avoid that area and come to Lagos from Port Harcourt to load product.
He disclosed that about eighty percent (80%) of his members now come to Lagos to load as a result of the road situation in Port Harcourt.
He added that the influx of tankers into Lagos, facilities in the West Zone of the group are over stressed.
“Trucks fall down on daily basis and people are killed in the process and our members are also losing their trucks”. He said.
In a statement signed by the PTD Spokesman, Comrade Atanda Adebayo, said that the group has brought the bad state of the road to the attention of Government and that nothing has been done about .
He explained that most of the accidents that has resulted in deaths and destruction of properties were avoidable adding that the government has not deemed fit to repair the road.
Part of the statement reads “The road which is the only road leading to the refinery has become a death trap tp motorists especially our members who ply the road on daily basis to lift petroleum products.
”We have made several appeals to the government to fix the road with out any response.
“Considering the avoidable accident that occur almost everyday due to the bad state of the raod and the attendant injuries sustained by our members, the Union will not hesitate in withdraw its service if the road is not fixed.
‘We are appealing to the governments for the last time to fix the road to avoid members from downing tool and arrest the looming danger inherent in the falling down of tankers in the area”.
