Tragedy struck at the Kirikiri area of Apapa in Lagos recently when a man whose identity was given as Mr. Oramunwa Patrick was burnt to death when fire erupted from a generating set which he placed very close to where he also hoarded petrol.

The 40- year old deceased was said to be fond of hoarding petrol in his apartment

According to eye witness who also lived in the same one storey building with the deceased, the fire erupted at about 4pm Monday last week after late Oramunwa reportedly put on his generator set which he usually kept not too far away from he also horded petrol. The fire was said to have gradually go stronger which eventually killed the man before help could come.

Apart from the Patrick, no other live was lost, but the three flats at the top floor of the house were burnt down, while the ground floor flats were also affected

An occupant of one of the flats downstairs who confirmed the accident to Shipping Position Weekly said the scarcity of petrol all over the country has made some people to delve into the black market business , even as he confirmed that one of them was his deceased neighbour.

“I think he was the only one at home at that moment, he went to put on his generator because for a long time now you will agree with me that generator is what we all normally use due to the country’s electricity situation, he must have been careless because this is not the first time he keeps fuel at home” he said.

According to our source “the fire was very bad and it would have even affected the other houses as you can see because of the closeness of the roofs to each other, all the neighbours have all been disposed, everybody is now hiding out here and there, I and my family are still here because it has rendered us helpless and we have nowhere to go”

“Due to the heat, the flats down here have been affected, the decking is shaking badly now and even the walls have cracked, any moment from now it will fall down” he added
