The Federal University of Transportation, Daura, has reaffirmed its commitment to advancing logistics and transport education to support Nigeria’s sustainable blue economy agenda.
The Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, Mr Wahab Owokoniran, gave the assurance during the 2025 Annual National Conference of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT) Nigeria in Lagos.
The conference, held at the Civic Centre, Victoria Island, gathered policymakers, academics, industry leaders, and professionals across the logistics and transport value chain.
Owokoniran commended CILT-Nigeria for consistently providing a credible platform for dialogue, research, and professional development within the nation’s transport and logistics sector.
He described the annual conference as a cornerstone event shaping the future of mobility, trade, and infrastructure development across Nigeria.
Owokoniran praised CILT’s role in promoting excellence and professionalism, noting that its platform had become a beacon of thought leadership and policy direction in the sector.
Speaking on the conference theme, ‘Enhancing Logistics and Transport for Sustainable Blue Economy in Nigeria’, he said it aligned perfectly with the nation’s diversification agenda.
He noted that the blue economy offered vast opportunities for inclusive growth and innovation through the utilisation of maritime and inland water resources.
According to him, achieving the goals of the blue economy depends on efficient logistics systems, reliable transport networks, and stakeholder collaboration.
“At the Federal University of Transportation, Daura, we are proud to be contributing to this national vision,” Owokoniran said.
He emphasised that the university aimed to nurture professionals equipped to drive excellence in transport policy, operations, and technology.
Owokoniran added that the institution remained committed to research, innovation, and capacity development to support Nigeria’s transformation into a global transport hub.
He also reaffirmed the university’s readiness to deepen collaboration with CILT Nigeria, CILT Africa, and CILT Global in promoting knowledge exchange and professional standards.
“Together, we can build the human capital and frameworks required to sustain Nigeria’s blue economy ambitions,” he stated.
Owokoniran congratulated the organisers and expressed optimism that the conference outcomes would yield actionable solutions for strengthening Nigeria’s transport systems.
He wished all participants a productive gathering, saying it would inspire new partnerships, policies, and innovations to move the nation forward.
In his goodwill message, Chief Of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, represented by Maj.-Gen. Emmanuel Anaryu, commended CILT for promoting innovation in logistics and transport.
Oluyede highlighted the institute’s immense contributions to national security, economic growth, and sustainable development.
He noted that the blue economy offered opportunities in trade, energy, and industry, which must rest on efficient logistics and resilient transport infrastructure.
“For the Nigerian Army, logistics is not just a function but a vital aspect of our operational and administrative activities,” he said.
Oluyede stressed that the army’s operational success relied on the strength and reliability of its logistics and transport systems.
He added that the force continued to modernise its logistics chain, embrace technology, and strengthen partnerships that enhance transparency and efficiency.
Oluyede further aligned the army’s logistics goals with the President’s agenda for economic diversification and infrastructural renewal.
He commended the government’s focus on maritime security and industrial growth as a roadmap for national development.
Oluyede appreciated CILT-Nigeria for allocating 10 participation slots at this year’s conference to the Nigerian Army.
He urged stakeholders to share knowledge and build strategies that would transform Nigeria into a regional hub for sustainable maritime trade and logistics excellence.
