A political support group, Transporters for Tinubu 2027, has met with the leadership of the Maritime Workers’ Union of Nigeria (MWUN) in Lagos as part of efforts to build alliances within the transport sector ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The delegation visited the union’s headquarters at Olodi-Apapa, where they were received by the President-General of MWUN, Comrade Adewale Adeyanju Bunu.
During the meeting, the group said the visit formed part of a broader initiative to promote structured collaboration between government institutions, transport operators and private sector stakeholders in support of the reform agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
According to the group’s executives, the engagement was also aimed at fostering grassroots participation in policies designed to improve national mobility, strengthen the transport sector and stimulate economic growth.
They explained that the group was touring strategic organisations within Nigeria’s transport ecosystem to acquaint them with the vision, structure and programmes of the Transporters for Tinubu 2027 project.
The delegation described MWUN as one of the most influential labour organisations in Nigeria and Africa, noting that its role in the maritime and water transport sector makes it a key stakeholder in national economic development.
They added that the union’s widespread membership and influence among maritime workers positioned it as an important partner in mobilising support and promoting the objectives of the Tinubu 2027 project within the transport community.
Responding, Bunu thanked the group for recognising the importance of the union and engaging its leadership.
He stated that the Maritime Workers’ Union of Nigeria would always support initiatives that promote progress, unity and national development.
However, the labour leader emphasised that the union remains non-partisan despite its interest in national development and governance.
He noted that while MWUN supports policies and initiatives capable of moving Nigeria forward, the union is committed to maintaining its neutrality in partisan politics while advocating good governance.
The visit forms part of ongoing consultations by political support groups seeking to build alliances across key sectors of the Nigerian economy as preparations gradually begin toward the 2027 elections.
