The Maritime Reporters Association of Nigeria (MARAN) has expressed optimism over preparations for its forthcoming special reception in honour of its past presidents, as plans for the landmark event reach an advanced stage.
The association disclosed that following weeks of strategic planning and engagement with key stakeholders, it has received encouraging support from across Nigeria’s maritime industry, signalling strong interest in the initiative.
The reception is expected to attract a wide range of industry players, including government officials, policymakers, regulators, terminal operators, shipping companies, and freight forwarders. Beyond celebrating former leaders of the association, the event is also aimed at reinforcing the critical role of maritime journalism in shaping policy direction, promoting transparency, and supporting the growth of the sector.
Chairman of MARAN’s Caretaker Committee, Tunde Ayodele, said the event would provide an opportunity to reflect on the contributions of past presidents whose leadership helped establish the association as a strong voice within the maritime industry. He added that the gathering would further deepen collaboration between the media and industry stakeholders, especially at a time of ongoing reforms and modernization in the sector.
Also speaking, Chairman of the Planning Committee, Funso Olojo, noted that several dignitaries, including officials from the Federal Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy and heads of maritime agencies, have shown keen interest in attending the event. He added that corporate organisations and industry groups have equally pledged support.
Olojo described the reception as a platform to celebrate excellence and recognise the immense contributions of former MARAN leaders, noting that many of them have continued to excel in diverse fields, including ministry, law, media, and public service.
According to him, the event will highlight the achievements and rising profiles of these past leaders, whose dedication and sacrifices contributed significantly to the growth and reputation of the association.
The reception is scheduled to hold on April 24, 2026, at Rockview Hotel, and will feature award presentations, goodwill messages, and networking opportunities aimed at strengthening industry relationships.
As preparations gather momentum, MARAN has called on stakeholders, corporate bodies, and well-meaning individuals to support the event through sponsorships and active participation.
MARAN remains Nigeria’s foremost maritime journalists’ association, committed to promoting ethical journalism, capacity building, and informed reporting within the maritime and blue economy space.
